In 2005 Biocad launched Genferon®, an innovative product developed by the Center of Immunological Engineering. Genferon® is a suppository with recombinant interferon-α2b that is approved in Russia for the use in patients with urogenital infections.

Genferon® is unique in many aspects. Interferon-α with its profound antiviral and immunomodulatory activity is combined with taurine that exerts antioxidant effect, stabilizes cell membrane and stimulates tissue regeneration. Moreover, Genferon® includes anesthesine (benzocaine) – a local anesthetic that quickly relieves irritation and itching associated with urogenital infection.

Local delivery helps to achieve a very high concentration of interferon-α at the site of infection and in the same time eliminates risk of undesired systemic activity. Because of its immunomodulatory activity, Genferon® is applicable in a broad variety of complex clinical situations, such as chronic infections with multiple chemoresistant pathogens. Interferon-α effects help to overcome such problems associated with chronic infection as poor antigen presentation and suppression of immune reactions.
 
Clinical trials of Genferon® have demonstrated its high efficiency for the treatment of genital herpes, genital warts and chronic prostatitis. Incorporation of Genferon® into the complex treatment programs in chronic prostatitis patients increases the rate of pathogen elimination and complete remission up to more than 90%. Immunomodulatory and direct antiviral effects of Genferon® make it a promising agent for therapy of chronic sexually transmitted diseases, including HPV infection – a leading cause of cervical cancer.

Genferon® Light was launched in 2009. It’s a complex immunomodulatory drug for treatment of different urogenital and acute respiratory infectious diseases in children and pregnant women. It’s also used in comprehensive therapy of other infectious and viral diseases.

Genferon® Light is available in suppositories for vaginal and rectal application.

It provides complex efficacy: stimulating immunity, antiviral, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, reparative, regenerating, protective for membrane and hepatoprotective, antioxidant effect and regulation of metabolism. The method of application provides a high concentration of active ingredients in the inflammation area.
